Under 6 & 7's Squads

E-mail Print PDF

As Percy Park under 6 & 7's train together, and during the 2008/9 season had almost 50 children in their ranks, and to ensure that the children developed their rugby awareness at a suitable pace it was necessary to divide the children into squads based around age and experience.

Percy Park under 6 & 7's will hopefully operate the a similar setup for the 2009\10 season with the following teams (numbers permitting):

Pumas, Panthers, Lions, Leopards & Jaguars

The children as a whole will train together at the start and end of each session and will only be seperated into teams for the purpose of skills development and actual games - there will be plenty opportunity for the children to mix with their friends throughout each session.

If any parent has a requirement to discuss anything club \ rugby related please feel free to speak to any one of the coaches on a Sunday or alternatively you can email them via the 'contacts' tab on our website.

Under 6 & 7's Questions and Answers

E-mail Print PDF

The following page will hopefully address any questions you may have regarding u6 & u7 training at Percy Park.

What age can my child begin to play rugby?

The RFU continuum states that children can only play competitive rugby from the age of 6 years old. However,  we offer rugby training for all children who attend primary school therefore children may join the club from 5 years old.

The u6 age group is reception and year 1 inclusive.

The u7 age group is year 2.

How do I know what age group to put my child in?

A player's age group is determined by their age on 1st September at the beginning of the season. An under 7 player will therefore only turn 7 during the course of the season.

When does the mini rugby season start and finish?

The mini rugby season starts on the 1st September each year and finishes on the 30th April the following year. Please continue to read the website to be kept informed of events prior to and after these dates.

When does the u6 & u7 team train?

The u6 & u7section of Percy Park train and play matches on Sunday mornings at 10:30 during the season unless specified otherwise.

Where do the u6 & u7 team train?

At Percy Park RFC - Please see the 'Directions' tab for further information.

Which age group should my child be in?

Reception & Yr1 u6's Mini Rugby - Tag

Yr2 u7's Mini Rugby - Tag

What age do they start tackling?

Children start tackling in the u9 section of Mini Rugby.

Can girls play rugby?

Yes. They can train and play along side the boys all the way through Mini/Midi rugby until they reach Year 8.

Responsibilities of parents, coaches and managers:

Coaches and managers cannot take legal responsibility for those players whose parents leave them during training sessions, tournaments and games. If parents have to leave the ground for any reason during a training session, tournament or game, they should appoint a fellow parent to be responsible for their child.

Medical or other conditions:

If players have any particular condition such as asthma or diabetes which may effect their playing, please inform your respective team manager and ensure this is recorded on your child’s membership form under the medical section.

Subscriptions:

Children joining the club have a 4 weeks trial before any payment is due, although registration forms need to be filled out ASAP. Subcriptions are paid via 3 post dated cheques which cover the subs for the children for the entire year including insurance. Please see the team managers for these forms.

Registration:

The English Rugby Football Union require all children whow wish to play against teams outside of the club to be registered with Northumberland RFU. Parents are required to complete a players registration form and provide 2 passport sized photos of your child. On completion of registration the children will be issued with an RFU registration number. Children NOT registered with the RFU are unable to play in county competitions.

Child protection policy:

The RFU and Percy Park RFC have a moral obligation to ensure that when given responsibility for children and young players, coaches and officials provide them with the highest possible standard of care. As a guideline:

• A young players welfare is paramount
• All young players have the right to protection from abuse
• All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken very seriously

All Percy Park coaches and volunteers have been appropriately screened by an RFU CRB check. Percy Park operates an 'open door' policy in that players and parents can contact any member of the coaching staff at any time should they have any issues or concerns.
