Ponteland, Alnwick and Novos visit Preston Avenue
The Flying Foxes took full advantage of that rare thing - rugby on a Sunday morning and invited three teams to Park. A full mornings rugby saw the the U11's remain unbeaten in the face of some spirited opposition.
Percy Park 7, Ponteland 7.
Park played the better rugby, had the majority of possession and gained the most ground, but still couldn't finish off a resilient Ponteland side. After a scoreless first half, Park deservedly took the lead through Joe who had exchanged passes with Alex as the pair of them crashed and bashed their way through the defence in front of them. Taking up kicking duties again for the first time in a long while, Niall confidently kicked the conversion to put Park 7-0 ahead. A hard fought game was in final stages when an attempted clearance from behind Park's try line was charged down by a determined opponent who then fell on the ball for a try which was converted.
Percy Park 15, Alnwick 10.
When push came to shove Alex was the match winner as Park triumphed in a close encounter that had seen them take and loose a 10-0 lead. Park's opening try was good to watch as from a scrum the ball went through a number of hands, the move coming to a successful conclusion when Niall unselfishly released Jack into space. The lead doubled when, unexpectedly, Ross and not one of the team's heavier weights, took possession from a restart close to Alnwick's line and dived over for the score. Other teams might have given up at this point but not Alnwick who to their credit got back on level terms to set up a thrilling climax. From the restart Park gained possession and put Alnwick under tremendous pressure and a siege developed on the visitors' try line. Park's determined attacks were equally determinedly beaten back until Alex used all of his considerable power to touch down.
Percy Park 30, Novos 0.
A spirited performance from Novos could do little to stop a rampant Flying Foxes team who ran in 6 unanswered tries.
