Flying Foxes host Ashington, North Shields and Rockcliff
After what seems like months without a game the Flying Foxes played three games against Ashington and local rivals North Shields and Rockcliff and the lads were on form. The games gave the coaches an opportunity to look at a couple positional changes and the Foxes relished the chance to actually play some rugby after the weather enforced break. Three wins from three sealed a great morning of rugby.
Match reports:
Percy Park 54, Rockcliff 5
Back in action for the first time since mid December Park got an early shock as straight from the kick off they conceded a try. From then on though, there was going to be only one winner. Alex strode over from close range to begin the rout and straight from a line out Joe went over for Park's second try. Before half time Adam M. and Luke A. made the morning a notable one for themselves by scoring their first tries for the club. Will kicked three out of his four conversion attempts to make it 26-5 at half time. When play resumed Park continued where they had left off with Joe running in try number five. A second try from Alex and further five pointers from Will and Jamie, who was playing his first game at scrum half, took Park passed the fifty point mark. Succeeding with all four second half conversion attempts, Will finished the match with 19 points to his credit.
Percy Park 25, North Shields 0
As he had done in the previous game against Rockcliff, Alex barged his way through the defence to put Park ahead in a game which did not feature conversions. Give the ball to Niall close to the line and more often than not he will produce a try and he did exactly that to give Park a 10-0 half time lead. Two Tags then sprinted away into the left hand corner to increase the lead and then Ross dived over from short range to make it 20-0. The seal was set on a one sided victory when Joe unselfishly set up Jack for the final try of the game.
Percy Park 15, Ashington 0
Beaten by Ashington on an unlucky 13th December, Park gained instant revenge with three second half tries in another game with no conversion attempts. After a scoreless first half, an Ashington player took one of his coach's advice to let the long opening second half kick off bounce into touch-in goal and when it stuck in the mud a quick witted Jack nipped in for the opening touch down. The visitor's defence was breached for a second time when Adam S. finished off a fine passing move that to the coaches delight came straight off the training ground, then right on time Joe crashed over for the third try.
