2010-11 Season

Thanks for visiting the Percy Park Mini section website. Our 2009-10 playing season has now finished and the new season will start on Sunday 5th September.

img_2799 webPercy Park has the largest Mini and Youth rugby section in the area with RFU qualified and CRB compliant coaches teaching rugby to young people from 6 year old through to Academy level at 17 and 18 year old.

We are always looking for new players that want to learn the game in a safe and fun environment - Mini section training for U7 through to U12's is held at Preston Avenue on Sunday mornings starting from 10.00am.

The season is structured around training sessions and games against other clubs in Northumberland and we take part in a series of rugby festivals towards the end of the season.

We hold a number of award days throughout the season to reward the players for their hard work as well as having a Christmas party, end of season awards day where this year the presentations were made by players from the Newcastle Falcons and an end of season tour. This year 277 players and parents went to see the Newcastle Falcons take on Wasps and the players were all involved in some way: we had players forming the guard of honour as the teams came on to the pitch and others received a signed ball and shirt.

Falcons v Wasps

Newcastle Falcons v Wasps Saturday 8th May

Final details for our "mini Mini tour" this Saturday:

10.30 - meet at Druids Park, Woolsington, Newcastle NE13 8DF

11.00 - training sessions start and run through until 13.00

13.00 - food served in Thumpers Bar

14.00 - travel to Kingston Park

14.45 - U9 & U10's meet in middle of East Stand to form the guard of honour

15.00 - kick off

15.35 - U7 & U8's meet in North West corner to run around the pitch

15.35 - U11 & U12's meet in middle of East Stand to collect signed match ball and shirt on the pitch

Players will need to wear Percy Park top (match shirt or waterproof) and coaches will be needed to supervise each group of players: coaches should wear their coaches jackets so they are easily identified.

There is limited parking at Druids Park and nothing available at Kingston Park so it may be advisable to travel by Metro. Callerton Parkway is the best stop for Druids - cross the Metro lines and walk towards the Wheatsheaf pub and Druids Park is right next door on the main road. The best stop for Kingston Park is probably Bank Foot - coaches and parents will need to supervise the players both on the Metro and during the walk to the stadium. We wil have somewhere to leave bags at Kingston Park.

Tickets will be handed out to lead coach/team managers on the day. There are 275 of us going and this is the biggest take up of a ticket pakage by one single group: the Falcons will be including us in the match day programme and on their website as well as trying to get a feature in local press. We've also contacted Touchline, the RFU on line magazine, and hope to get a feature in their grass roots section.

End of Season Awards

The annual Mini Section end of season awards are this Sunday and I'm pleased to say that Newcastle Falcon stars Jimmy Gopperth and Tane Tu'ipolotu will be with us to make the presentations.

The running order for the day is:

  • 11.30 - Doors open
  • 12.00 - Mini section group photo
  • 12.15 - Young Lions awards
  • 13.00 - Lunch
  • 13.45 - Awards

The group photo, weather permitting, will be taken on the first team pitch and will be sent to the Falcons as they are running a website article about our day at the Wasps game - we are the largest single group ever to take up the ticket/training package!

The main awards being made by each age group are: Most Improved Player, Coaches Award and Player of the Season. There are a number of other awards presented by each age group as well as the main award of the day which is the Mini Section Player of the Year.
